The announcement of the 2021 International Batik Design Competition Winners

Term and Conditions

This Batik Design Competition is offered subject to the terms and conditions set out below "Terms and Conditions".

General Terms 

  1. The promoter is Faculty of Languages and Arts of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (FBS UNY) whose registered office is at Jalan Colombo No. 1, Yogyakarta, 55281.
  2. This competition is international in scope and is open to active students at all levels of higher education (diploma, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree) from both private and state-owned universities in Indonesia and abroad.
  3. There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter this competition.
  4. The entrant must register and submit a scan of valid student card within the registration dates to enter this competition. 
  5. Obtaining time off work and/or study or related activities to participate in this competition and/or take a prize will be the sole and absolute responsibility of each entrant.
  6. Closing date for entry will be September 25, 2021, at 23.59 Western Indonesian Time. After this date the no further entries to the competition will be permitted.
  7. All entries must be the original work of the submitting artist.
  8. The submitted batik design must be a work that has not been submitted, either in whole or in part, to other exhibitions, competitions, or similar activities as proven by a statement hereinafter referred to as the Integrity Pact signed. The Integrity Pact format is available here. 
  9. Any copyright infringement will be borne by the entrant, and must release the promoter from any obligations, responsibilities, and/or third-party lawsuits.
  10. The entrant or winner who is proven to have committed plagiarism, copyright infringement, use of false personal data, and/or commit fraud in participating in this competition, will be unilaterally disqualified and/or not entitled to receive prizes or compensation in any form.
  11. The entrant releases FBS UNY as the promoter from all third-party claims that arise in connection with the entrant’s participation in this competition.

Specific Terms 

  1. Only one entry of batik design will be accepted per person. Multiple entries from the same person will be disqualified.
  2. The design of Batik motifs must reflect the image and identity of the promoter (FBS UNY) as an academic, humanist, innovative, and professional institution, and should still uphold the noble values of Indonesian culture.
  3. The Batik design must use purple as its dominant color (the identity color of FBS UNY).
  4. The batik design created must be able to be applied to hand-written batik (batik tulis) work uniforms with proportions distributed according to the entrant’s creativity.
  5. The batik design appears in patterns which can be drawn manually or with the help of the digital technology.
  6. The batik design which is made manually must be scanned in the form of good quality jpg/pdf file with minimum resolution 300dpi.  and submitted to the committee and must be submitted via this webpage.
  7. Digitally created batik designs must follow the following format:
  • appearing in Artboard size with 2,126 x 1,416 pixels,
  • using CMYK colors,
  • having PDF and JPG file types with minimum resolution 300dpi, and
  • having a maximum file size of 15 MB.
  1. Technically, the design must be submitted in two (2) forms of working drawings, namely:
  • The first working drawing shows the entire hand-written batik design in a flat area and defines the design title and scale.
  • The second working drawing is an image of a batik design that has been applied to the front and back view of the mockup. Work clothes mockup format can be downloaded here.
  1. The entrant must submit a description of the batik design, namely the title of the work, the color or color codes used, and the philosophical meaning of the motif and/or color of the work via the web link provided by the committee.
  2. All documents required for the competition are stored in .zip format, and the file is named with the following format:
  • Name of Participant_College Origin_Nationality_Title of batik design. Example: Agus_Reksobono_Universitas_Negeri_Yogyakarta_Indonesia_Bunga Seroja.
  • The work must be submitted at the competition’s webpage event.uny.ac.id/batikcompetition no later than 
    September 25, 2021, at 23:59 Western Indonesian Time.
  1. Winners are selected by an independent adjudicator or panel of judges appointed by the promoter.
  2. All nominees will be contacted by the promoter to present their designs through the selected media.
  3. The winning batik designs will be announced by the promoter on October 2, 2021, through the competition’s webpage event.uny.ac.id/batikcompetition.
